The 16th Anniversary San Diego Triathlon Challenge event raised more than $1 million to allow CAF to help purchase adaptive equipment, provide mentoring and mobility programs and sports opportunities to individuals with physical disabilities and our injured military personnel. Saul Martinez, who lost both legs in Iraq speaks about his first time participating in the swim portion on a relay team. Jeffrey Essakow, CAF's board president speaks about how CAF has helped eliminate the stigma associated with being disabled and how the event has grown to include more than 150 challenged athlete participants alongside the 500 able-bodied competitors. Seven-year-old bilateral amputee and CAF Spokesperson Cody McCasland visits wounded warrior Kevin McCloskey, a U.S. soldier who was permanently injured while protecting our freedom in Afghanistan. Arranged by Kevin's girlfriend Lauren Baukus, the McCasland family and the Challenged Athletes Foundation, Inside Edition captured the touching moment when Cody surprised Kevin at this apartment in San Antonio just before his 16th surgery. Kevin had listed Cody as the one person he wanted to meet on his MySpace profile after learning about Cody at the Brook Army Medical Center.
