Össur Grantee Highlights

Parker Byrd of Winterville NC

Parker was on a boat tubing with friends and the propeller struck both of his legs and led to the loss of his lower right extremity. Parker plays baseball at East Carolina and is the first Division 1 baseball player with a prosthetic.  Parker is also working to become a Paralympian once baseball is finished. Sports keep him in shape and challenge him to keep moving. Parker has had a walking leg but needed one to run on.  Training for baseball and Paralympic sports requires running at a pace that is hard with a heavy walking leg. Parker was granted an Össur Cheetah Xcel to help him achieve his dreams.

Ryleigh Farson of Solomon, KS

In July 2023, Ryleigh experienced a UTV accident resulting in a below-the-knee amputation. Soon after, she strongly desired to return to sports, emphasizing athletics’s positive impact on her life. With the help of a CAF grant, Ryleigh received an Össur Flex Run prosthetic, enabling her to pursue her passion for sports again. She is excited to reintegrate into activities like volleyball, basketball, rodeo, softball, or track, and she is grateful for the opportunity to continue their athletic journey.

Sam Beveridge of Contennial, CO

Sam, a below-knee amputee due to a hunting accident, received an Össur Cheetah Xtend grant. Despite his injury, he stays active in sports like cycling, CrossFit, swimming, and yoga. Sam aims to complete his 13th Leadville 100 mountain bike race and join the Para-National Road Race. He’s thankful for CAF grants covering active lifestyle costs and looks forward to using a running blade to resume running. Sam hopes to become a CAF ambassador to inspire others.
