Ahyala Lettenberger
Personal Story: Ahyala Lettenberger is a distinguished para swimmer and a one-time Paralympian, having earned a silver medal at the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 in the 200m Individual Medley SM7 – Women. She also achieved a commendable 4th place in the 400m Freestyle S7 – Women at the same games. Ahyala was born with arthrogryposis amyoplasia, a muscular skeletal disorder that affects her lower limbs. Despite this condition, she has always participated in a variety of sports. She began swimming at age 11 to alleviate chronic hip pain due to bilateral hip dysplasia. Ahyala’s competitive journey in para swimming began at age 12 when she competed in her first event, the GTAC Disability Open. Less than a year later, she was named to the U.S. emerging team roster, marking the start of her promising career. Ahyala is also a dedicated student-athlete, swimming at the NCAA Division I level at Rice University in Houston. Outside of her rigorous training and competition schedule, she enjoys cooking, baking, watching movies, reading, and spending time with her friends and family. Ahyala is the daughter of Tom and Anna and has two siblings, Alex and Charlie. She also has a beloved black lab named Rocky.
