Nine-Year-Old Joshua Piperato of North Arlington, NJ To Receive an Össur Flex-Run Foot to Pursue Athletic Goals

New York City, NY. — June 2, 2016 — More than 30 individuals with limb loss will gather on Sunday, June 5 at the Eugene McCabe Field in New York City for the Össur Running and Mobility Clinic presented by the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF).

The event, organized through a partnership between CAF and Össur, a global leader in prosthetics innovation, provides a safe and encouraging environment where attendees learn proper running form and technique through fun drills and exercises. The clinic is being presented at no cost to people with limb loss of all ages and skill levels in the New York area.

This clinic provides the opportunity and support to people with physical challenges so they can pursue an active lifestyle through physical fitness. CAF believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life.

World-renowned gait experts Dr. Robert Gailey and Peter Harsch, CP, will teach new and experienced amputees how to achieve their running and mobility goals – whether learning to walk again, or fine-tuning their speed skills in sprinting. Participants will be supported by dozens of local volunteers, working side-by-side with Team Össur member and  Paralympian Jerome Singleton and CAF mentors.

The clinic will begin with a special grant presentation of an Össur Flex-Run foot with Nike Sole to new above-knee amputee, Joshua Piperato of North Arlington, NJ. Piperato, age 9, lost his leg but not his desire to play sports, and his new prosthetic foot will allow him to play soccer, his favorite sport, at a higher level of mobility.

This clinic precedes CAF’s 10th anniversary of A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope Gala on June 8 at the Waldorf Astoria New York, where unbreakable spirit, strength and support for challenged athletes will be witnessed and honored. Scott Stackman, the creator, Chairman and this year’s Honoree of A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope Gala, who is a CAF Board Member and the Managing Director of UBS Private Wealth Management will attend the clinic to witness firsthand the life-changing impact of the funds raised at the gala over the years.

“Over the past nine years, the New York community has come together, and through their incredible efforts, raised over $11.2 million to give challenged athletes the opportunity to get back into the game of life,” said Scott Stackman. “It’s through these wonderful clinics that we are able to see the direct impact to challenged athletes like nine-year-old Joshua, who will be receiving a new Össur Flex-Run foot that enables him to pursue his athletic dreams.”

“Össur is pleased to have partnered with CAF over the past two decades, and to offer clinics like this one across the U.S. As a company, we are dedicated to continuously innovating so that more people like Joshua may enjoy life without limitations.,” said Kim De Roy, CPO/PT, Vice President of Sales & Marketing and Education, Prosthetics for Össur Americas.
