Chelsie Thompson
Challenge: Above Knee Amputee
Sports: Running, Volleyball, Basketball
Bio: Eight year old Chelsie Thompson is a sweet girl with a little bit of spunk, some sass and a whole lot of determination all rolled into this cute little package. Chelsie is always up for an adventure from going hiking, running with family, participating in dance camp, showing her pig and playing sports like basketball and volleyball.
On June 3, 2016, the first day of summer vacation after finishing kindergarten Chelsie was in a riding lawn mower accident. She fell off the deck of the mower and her left leg was run over. As a result of the accident her left leg was amputated just above the knee.
Her drive and motivation to keep going has allowed her to push forward and achieve whatever she sets her mind to. Chelsie has always been up for anything whether it’s playing a sport, running or going hiking. Only 10 months after her accident and only 6 months with her prosthetic Chelsie attended her first CAF running clinic in Portland, Or in April of 2017. She was then invited to attend the CAF Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge where she participated in the running and surfing clinics. In 2018, Chelsie was awarded a grant for an Össur Cheetah running knee and an Össur Flex-Run Junior.
With this amazing opportunity Chelsie will be able to have a better opportunity to participate in things she loves to do, including running with her mom, playing volleyball, basketball, and most of all keeping up with her 3 siblings.
